Dale Earnhardt Jr. never won a NASCAR Cup Series championship, and he’s far from the top of the winningest NASCAR drivers list.
But he still accumulated a few dozen trophies throughout his two-decade career. He just has no idea where all of them are.
So, as he explained on the latest episode of his podcast, the Dale Jr. Download, he wants to build a giant case to help him find the missing trophies, which is simultaneously funny, ridiculous but actually kind of practical for someone like him.
During the Q&A portion of this week’s podcast episode, Earnhardt was asked what he did with his 15-time Most Popular Driver trophies. The driver turned NBC Sports broadcaster explained that all but one are at JR Motorsports’ shop, his second-tier XFINITY Series team where he records the podcast. The other, he said, is part of an exhibit about him at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
“I’ve literally had the same thought in my head, maybe several months ago, and I walked through the whole building going, ‘Are they all here?'” Earnhardt said.
And that question led Junior to a tangent about the location of the rest of his trophies. After all, in addition to all the Most Popular Driver Awards, he has 26 Cup Series wins and two championships and 24 wins in the XFINITY Series.
He explained on the Dale Jr. Download:
“Kasey Kahne took a picture in front of his trophy case, and he had built this giant trophy case. And I think Kyle Busch has one very similar. It’s just full of trophies. And I was like, ‘I want to do that!’ And you know why? It’s because I don’t know where they are. I don’t know where all my stuff’s at.
“And honestly, I bet that there’s some missing pieces. I got trophies just laying in my basement. I need a shelf that holds them all — all 26 Cup trophies, all the most popular drivers, all the XFINITY trophies. And I would love to do that to be able to understand what I’m missing and find out where that stuff is. Like man, where is everything? It’s all over the place. I’ve got some trophies here, I’ve got trophies all over my property. Some are in the Hall of Fame. I don’t know if I have all of them. Goodness.
“Imagine if you were [Kevin] Harvick or any of those guys, or Denny [Hamlin], with 40 or 50 wins. What do you do with all of them? And I think [there is] the anxiety and concern of where they all might be or maybe one’s missing. I don’t know.”
Earnhardt didn’t get into specifics, but this could be Kahne’s trophy he’s referencing:
In this segment of the podcast episode, Earnhardt also spoke Washington football games he’d like to revisit and explained how to make his favorite cocktail, which is just a can of Sun Drop and a mini bottle of Jim Beam.
