Given that Bollywood is nott known to make good rom-coms when it involves anything to do with the topic of sex, Virgin Bhanupriya is a welcome change. The good part about this movie is that is it definitely not a sex comedy even though the entire film revolves around Bhanupriya played Uravashi Rauleta quest to lose her virginity. Yes, Bollywood is somewhat coming of age and have started to realise that the audience is mature enough to enjoy a movie on the said subject without people being judgmental.
But this could stem from the brilliant storytelling by writer-director Ajay Lohan. More so as the industry is not known to make films that explore a woman’s sexuality or desires. The fact that it has done the same, is a breath of fresh air and it does this with its racy humour, catchy dialogues that will keep you entertained all through 111 minutes.
Rautela, who was last seen in Pagalpanti, plays the role of Bhanupriya with aplomb and gives a great performance as the girl who wants to lose her virginity. A special mention for the support cast especially Rumana Molla who plays Rukul, Bhanupriya’s bindaas friend who is unapologetic about her sexual needs. Her mission is to introduce her friend to potential candidates to lose her V-card.
More than Bhanupriya and her quest, it is the dialogues and banter between Rajiv Gupta who plays Bhanu’s father and Archana Puran Singh who plays the mother that need to be applauded for their brilliant performance here. They are the one’s that keep your funny one tickling with their dialogues and relationship — love to hate each other. Each character has been well-fleshed out and makes them relatable and the movie a must-see.
