Funnyman Jeff Garlin isn’t laughing anymore when fans call him Harvey Weinstein after he was mistaken for the disgraced movie boss in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
The actor, who portrays a version of himself on Larry David’s riotous show, thought the idea of people mixing him and Weinstein up was hilarious at first – but the joke is wearing thin.
“I’m blessed to have Larry writing scenarios that I get to act out,” Garlin tells WENN. “It doesn’t get any better than that. One of the things is I’m one of the executive producers, so I get to read all the outlines ahead of time.
“Larry and (co-writer) Jeff Schaffer had a conversation with me: ‘Are you OK with this?’ At the time, I thought it was funny and I still think the episode is very funny. But unfortunately people come up to me and say, ‘Harvey, what are you doing here?’ I don’t find that funny at all, even though it was funny in the episode.
“We’re talking about an evil, vile, human being; you can’t get worse than that. So the idea that people come up to me and pretend that I’m Harvey… I don’t know what to say. But really no one has ever mistaken me for Harvey Weinstein in real life, so it’s all these people who watched the show and think it’s really funny – and it’s not!”
