Kentucky football was not included in the debut of the preseason AP Top 25, and Vince Marrow is not happy about it.
Despite Big Ten and Pac-12 schools not playing this fall, the Associated Press encourages voters to include all FBS teams in their rankings, regardless of when they are scheduled to play. As a result, nine teams from the Big Ten and Pac-12 made the preseason AP Top 25, while Kentucky’s 20 votes left them nine spots away from reaching the top 25.
Regardless of who was included or how the voting was done, Marrow believes the debut rankings are a “joke,” specifically inside the SEC.
“This is a joke but time will tell very soon. Go Big Blue,” said Marrow.
In the initial rankings, seven SEC teams were included, including three inside the SEC East.

Once games begin, the AP will only rank teams who have taken the field. As pollsters explained, at its heart, the AP Poll is supposed to be based on performance, while the preseason poll is a speculative snapshot of the season. The same will apply to All-American teams: all players are eligible in the preseason, but those who have opted out or cannot play will not be under consideration at the end of the year.
Until we see games played and the Cats move up the rankings, though, the Big Dog ain’t happy.
