The exercise provides helpful information on what to keep an eye out for when looking at a social media profile, helping quiz takers develop a better eye for spotting fake accounts in the future.The quiz is designed to empower everyday Facebook friends, Twitter followers and others to better understand disinformation — how it works, how to spot it and then, how stop it from taking hold.The work of Linvill and Warren has gained international recognition. But academic research alone won’t solve the disinformation problem, which is why the quiz was developed as a tool for the general public to help identify disinformation campaigns.Linvill and Warren advised caution to users about who the trolls are.“Professional disinformation isn’t spread by the account you disagree with — quite the opposite," they said in a news release. "Effective disinformation is embedded in an account you agree with. The professionals don’t push you away, they pull you toward them.”
