NEW DELHI: Amid the rising Sino-India border tensions, the Government Wednesday banned 118 more Chinese apps after junking 59 apps in the first round. The second ban includes the gaming app PUBG (Player Unknown’s Battleground), a highly popular battle royale game among the Indian youth.

Within an hour of the ban intimated by the IT ministry, desi Twitter exploded with hilarious memes. Some expressed sadness over the ban, while others poked fun at the happiness of Indian parents who often considered the addictive game to be a ‘distraction’ for their young, school-going children.

This meme hilariously summed up how elated Indian parents would have been after the announcement of PUBG ban.

Another meme showed a still of Amrish Puri and Farida Jalal with a subtitle that read, ‘ Aakhir woh din aa hi gaya (finally, that day has arrived)’, with the caption, ‘Indian parents be like…’.
There were plenty of MS Dhoni memes too. The former International cricketer spent most of his time in lockdown, playing games like PUBG, which was revealed by his wife Sakshi Dhoni during an Instagram Live. ‘PUBG retired before Dhoni could retire from PUBG,’ wrote a Twitterati.
This user made a meme out of a shot of Dhoni’s teary eyes and captioned it, ‘Dhoni after getting news of pubg ban’.
‘DHONI knew Pubg would be banned in India. So he flew to UAE (sic)’, wrote another Twitter user.
Netizens also churned out hilarious memes on how TikTok users could have possibly reacted to PUBG ban.
Twitterati didn’t miss the opportunity to make a meme out of the Netflix show ‘Indian Matchmaking’, with matchmaker Sima Taparia saying, ‘The stars are aligning for a life-changing event’’
Other memes showed reactions of aunties who were ‘irritated by their kids playing PUBG’.
Netizens couldn’t help but focus on the plight of users who have just purchased the PUBG Royale Pass.

Another user tweeted a screenshot of the Aamir Khan-starrer ‘3 Idiots’ and wrote, "Memers are making memes on pubg ban. Pubg players to memers: Aapko mazak lag raha hai? (you think this is a joke?)"

Oh, and quite a few netizens figured Kangana Ranaut’s famous dialogue ‘ Mera toh itna life kharaab ho gaya’ from the movie ‘Queen’ aptly sums up the current situation of PUBG lovers.
There were also memes on those who never played PUBG and how they reacted to the ban.
The apps have been banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology as "they are engaged in activities prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order". "This move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace," said a statement from the ministry.

The Covid-19 pandemic has been the ultimate ‘buzzkill’ and has thrown a wrench into major celebrations around the world. With the majority of the global population locked up indoors, Friendship Day celebrations, too, might follow the same trend and take a massive hit this year.

Social distancing and staying indoors may have become the order of the day, but that doesn’t mean one has to put one’s friendships on hold. You can always celebrate Friendship Day in quarantine, from the safety of your home, all while making your friends feel loved. Here are 5 ways to do the same.

While it may not be possible for you to shake hands with your bud or hug them this Friendship Day, you can always give them virtual hugs by getting on a video call.

Zoom calls may have taken the centre stage for WFH-related purposes, but you can always turn them around and have a virtual party with friends.

You can also get some snacks, play dance music on Gaana app and groove to the beats. While it might not feel the same as a house party, with friends around, the bubbly drinks and conversations flowing, you will definitely have a memorable experience.

Not just Zoom, you can also use WhatsApp video calling, Skype, the newly-launched JioMeet and the classic Google Chat app to connect with friends.

If having a party is not your cup of tea, you can always have a gala time with friends by playing games with them, virtually. There are several fun gaming apps that will allow you and your circle to challenge each other and compete in fun games.

If you happen to be a Ludo fanatic, you can play multiplayer Ludo with Ludo King. MPL (Mobile Premier League) is another app that will keep you and your friends hooked for hours as you play, win exciting prizes and rewards.

Then there’s the classic ‘Houseparty’ app which generated a lot of buzz worldwide during the lockdown. A face-to-face social networking app, ‘Houseparty’ allows you to video call your friends and play fun trivia games with them.

‘Psych’ - from the creators of the game ‘Heads Up!’ is another fun app, which has multiple modes that friends can play with.

Having friends over and binge-watching your favourite shows together might not be the best idea given the social-distancing norms that have been put in place. However, thanks to technology, you can now binge-watch shows with groups, even if you are not with them, physically.

With Netflix Party, a Google Chrome browser extension created specially to allow friends to watch movies together, you can do just that. With this, you and the gang can live chat and comment throughout the screening, creating a fun new way to continue watching your favourite movies together.

This will allow you to watch your favourite films together without going to a theatre and staying in the safety of your home.

With restaurants allowing takeaways and home-delivery, you can surprise your friends by ordering food for them. Food-delivery apps like Zomato, Swiggy and FoodPanda are now taking all possible precautions to maintain hygiene and keep your food safe.

If your friends love pizza, you can place an order for them on the Domino’s or Pizza Hut Delivery app. No matter what their favourite cuisine is - be it Thai, Mughlai or Continental - you can order from the above apps and help them satiate their food cravings.

Best Friendship Day gift? You bet!
