[Report] How Vince McMahon Feels About WWE Superstars Trying To Be Funny - TheSportster

Apparently, Vince McMahon feels that one of the biggest mistakes Superstars can make is that they try to be funny. A former WWE star detailed advice McMahon gave him on that front and said Vince thinks it's a total waste of time.

Ken Anderson (fka Mr. Kennedy) was a former WWE Superstar who was quite over with the audience before he seemingly disappeared. His shtick was to have a microphone drop from the arena ceiling and announce himself before every match. He did it twice, which is why fans loved it; they could do it with him.

But, Anderson said when he was getting over, he thought it was a good idea to be funny and McMahon squashed his plans almost immediately.

During an interview with Sportskeeda.com, Anderson said that one of the interactions he had with McMahon that stood out to him was when the Chairman of WWE told him to stop doing his comedy bits.  Anderson explained, "I was really over-the-top, and sort of comedic in my delivery of everything, and I remember him (Vince McMahon) trying to tell me like, you’ve got to stop trying to be funny and entertaining."

He went on to say he asked why and cited The Rock who was doing a lot of goofy comedy segments and the fans seemed to love it. McMahon responded that he hated when The Rock did it too and added:" And he said yeah, but the thing about The Rock was that he sort of hamstrung himself when he started cutting those funny promos."

Anderson said it turned out to be good advice because he realized that trying to be funny all the time is actually really hard to do. He explained:

It’s just really hard to do when you are running 52 weeks a year. So, I think that was an interesting piece of advice. There were times I think where funny is appropriate, but overall, the comedy characters, unfortunately, always seem to be secondary characters."

Nobody Ever Made Money Being Funny

Anderson said McMahon actually told him that ‘nobody ever drew big bucks being funny, goofy and doing comedy stuff.’ While R-Truth might argue otherwise, McMahon might have a point.

Even though WWE does try the comedy characters from time to time, most of them are extremely unfunny and the comedic characters tend not to have a very long shelf life.
