It goes without saying that coronavirus has changed, well, pretty much everything. Some of the changes are obvious (e.g. the restricted socialising, people very sadly losing loved ones and the pandemic's impact on mental health), others less so. But now a new Twitter thread has served up some nostalgic reminders of all the (honestly) gross habits many of us had before COVID-19 hit.
Kicking things off with a tweet about how she used to share bottles of water with handfuls of strangers at gigs, social media user @_jxnesyy said, "I can’t believe I used to share water with like 15 strangers at shows Jesus Christ" sparking an absolute tidal wave of responses.
One said the experience of sharing a drink with multiple other mouths (yeah, that sentence really hits differently these days) was also seen in church, when wine would be passed around an entire congregation. "Whole churches full of people used to drink wine out of the same cup at masses around the world every single Sunday and it boggles my mind now," wrote @rachelsuzanne84. Others mentioned sharing cigarettes and vapes with their friends, or strangers.
User @pcrul1 recounted a time they found a lone cigarette on the floor and feeling especially down that day, decided to pick it up and smoke it. "Once I was rlly sad and found a cigarette on the ground and smoked it," they tweeted.

Ready to shudder even more? Great! Because there's still lots to come (also is anybody else now thinking about all the drinks they used to minesweep in clubs at university? Or am I one-woman petri dish of shame over here? Obviously, retrospectively I now see this is also a potentially very dangerous idea. Note to self: must mention during next therapy session).
Twitter fan @MissStenn brought up one especially icky memory for us all, involving birthday cakes: "Imagine we used to let kids blow out candles on a birthday cake and we'd all eat anyway knowing damn well the kid spit-sprayed the cake." This one really err, yeah, that one has made me feel a special kind of weird. I'll have a slice of Victoria sponge with a side of glob, please?
Another, @emptycaprisun0, said they missed the feeling of gratification after taking care of somebody during a rave, saying that was a thing of the past. "I miss the serotonin and immediate feedback of caring for random strangers and protecting them from the dangers of dehydration, and other rave ailments. Now we can't trust nobody for nothing."
Kissing also made an appearance in the conversation. "I'm disgusted at how I'd get drunk at a bar and just kiss anyone who offered like what kinda fucked up was I," said @HttpAgust_D.

Of course, not everybody was on board with these stories, as many also said they'd never have shared a bottle of water/cigarette/anything with another person, even pre-pandemic. Which is also fair (and in hindsight, maybe the correct approach?). "So glad I NEVER did this, that shit GRIMEY," one succinctly said.
We'll leave it there, shall we? RIP raves, sharing and most fun things (for now).
