Animaniacs: The Dirtiest Jokes in the New Series | CBR - CBR - Comic Book Resources

The original Animaniacs was notorious for sneaking in risqué humor that was decidedly not appropriate for a series targeted at children, like the infamous "Fingerprints" joke. With the Animaniacs revival on Hulu streaming with a TV-PG rating, the limitations are even looser when it comes to what the show can and cannot include while remaining more or less kid-friendly.

So, with that said, here's a rundown of the most outrageous moments in the first season of Hulu's revival of Animaniacs.

Pinky on Tasteful Art and the Internet

Brain and Pinky in Hulu's Animaniacs

In Episode 1's Pinky and the Brain segment, "Of Mice and Memes," Brain announces that to take over the world "we must give the people what they truly want." Pinky responds, "Okay Brain, I'll do it, but only if it's tasteful and makes sense for my character" while removing his bathrobe in a bit that alludes to nudity and sex scenes in film and TV. Later in the segment, Brain asks Pinky if he knows what most people use the Internet for, to which Pinky says "I do, but I don't think I can say it" in what's clearly a reference to pornography. "Surprisingly, no Pinky," Brain coyly replies.

Dot's Toga

Animaniacs from the segment 'Warners Unbound'

During the Episode 2 segment "Warners Unbound," the Warners are Greek gods seeking revenge on Odysseus for ruining their remote island vacation. After their first two attempts to torture him by having a monster attack his ship and sending him to Hades fail to pan out, Dot claims she has "one more trick up my toga," which prompts Yakko to deliver his iconic blowing kiss and "Goodnight, Everybody!" punchline to the camera. Of course, what she really has in mind involves pitting Odysseus against a cyclops modeled after a certain U.S. president.

Father of Dragons/Brain Hates Art

Brain from Hulu's Animaniacs

In Episode 2's Pinky and the Brain fantasy parody segment, "How to Brain Your Dragon," Brain fantasizes about using a dragon to take over the world and make him the "Father of Dragons" in a riff on Game of Thrones, complete with Brain wearing a silver-haired wig modeled after Daenerys Targaryen's hair. "You're a father? Egad! You look great for someone who's had kids," Pinky responds. Later in the segment, Brain tries to convince the dragon that he's a huge supporter of the arts, to which Pinky points out he hates the arts and always says "that the Renaissance is French for bullshit," only for Brain to interrupt him by smacking him.

The High Jump

Animaniacs from the 'Gold Meddlers' segment

For the Episode 3 segment "Gold Meddlers," the Warners compete against international athletics champion Nils Niedhart in several games, including ping-pong and volleyball. They also face off in the high jump, which the games' announcer says is "now legal in 12 U.S. states" in what's obviously an allusion to legalized weed. In a separate lowbrow gag in the segment, Wakko participates in the discus throw competition by chasing the discus and retrieving it like a dog, before hitting Nils in the groin with it offscreen.

Bun Control

Episode 4's segment "Bun Control" is a parable about gun control that pits the Warners against their new neighbor Dwayne Lapistol, a farmer obsessed with owning and selling baby bunnies. Of course, the segment's title also refers to a running gag in which Dwayne mentions his "buns" before the show cuts to a shot of him flexing his butt muscles. Towards the end of the segment, Dwayne decries being taken away from the Warner Bros. studio lot, claiming he and everyone else has the right to "bear buns" before flexing his butt again. "Not here, this is a kid's show," replies Yakko.

Green Card Marriages and Small Feet

Yakko from Hulu's Animaniacs

In the Episode 5 segment "Good Warner Hunting," an English hunter name Walter Grubb tries to add the Warners to the list of Animaniacs characters he's captured. Dot notices he has a wedding ring and says he "must have a great personality." Wakko adds "Or he's rich," to which Yakko responds "Maybe it's a green card marriage." Incensed by this, Grubb claims "La Senora Grubb loves me very much." Throughout the segment, characters also repeatedly comment on Grubb's unusually small feet, which is obviously a sly reference to the old saying about a man's foot size.

Pinky on Gender

Pinky and Brain in Hulu's Animaniacs

In Episode 6's Pinky and the Brain segment, "Close Encounters of the Worst Kind," Brain and Pinky attempt to summon hostile extraterrestrial forces from around the universe to help them conquer Earth. When they stumble upon a signal from an alien force and Brain asks Pinky if he's pondering what he's pondering, Pinky replies "I think so, Brain, but if my knees bent backward like an ostrich, which restroom would I use?" -- a joke clearly alluding to gender identity.

Dogs and Monster-Truckers

During Episode 7's murder-mystery parody segment "Warner She Wrote, " the Warners are riding a train and unable to sleep since another passenger's dog, Gigi, keeps barking all night long. Finally, Yakko says he's "got to go see a woman about a dog," to which Wakko responds "Can't you just hold it and talk to Gigi's owner first?" In the same segment, the train's conductor keeps mixing up words that begin with "M." When he's later attacked by Gigi, he begs someone to get this "monster-trucker" off him. Wakko says he thinks he knows what the conductor really meant, but Yakko cuts him off, adding "Not in front of the kids."

Rich People

Animaniacs France France Revolution

In the Episode 7 segment "France France Revolution," the Warners are starving peasants trying to stay alive in 1700s France when they start working for Marie Antoinette. Naturally, her palace is stocked to the brim with delicious foods and desserts like cake, which the Warners try and sneakily eat without her knowing. When she discovers what they're really up to, Marie complains that this is the problem with being "rich," to which Yakko replies, "Your only other nickname is Dick?"

The War on Drugs

Dot in Hulu's Animaniacs

Episode 13, the Season 1 finale, wraps up with "FLOTUS, FLOTUS, What Do You Know About Us?," a segment in which Dot tries to sing about every First Lady of the United State in just a couple of minutes. During the song, she mentions that Betty Ford and Nancy Reagan "got America clean" like Lady Bird Johnson before them, clearly referencing the efforts to battle drug and alcohol addiction.
