Does Bill Belichick think the 2020 NFL season is a joke? - FanSided

According to a former Patriot, Bill Belichick is on to the 2021 season

Sitting at 2-5, the New England Patriots are a loss away from likely being out of the race for 2020 NFL playoffs. Despite refusing to tank to begin the year, Patriots coach Bill Belichick is still hoping to play competitive football with Cam Newton taking control under center in the post-Tom Brady era.

Is that true, or is all of it a lie? According to a former player under the Belichick regime, the 2020 season doesn’t matter to one of the greatest to call plays.

Former Patriots offensive lineman Matt Light said on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show”, Belichick doesn’t care about the season due to the concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic. Given all the stipulations, canceled practices and rescheduling of games, it’s a lost year no matter how you look at it.

Does Belichick not care about the year?

The Patriots fell short Sunday to the Buffalo Bills in what seemed like a must-win outing. Entering the final minutes, New England remained in the game down by three. Then a Newton fumble with seconds remaining cost them a 27-24 defeat at Bills’ Stadium.

Belichick stated earlier this week that although through Newton’s struggles, he will remain the incumbent starter moving forward into Week 9 against the New York Jets.

“Cam’s our quarterback. That’s the way it’s been all year,” Belichick said, according to NFL Network’s Michael Giardi.

Light spent his entire career under the direction of Belichick in Foxborough. The three-time Pro Bowler was essential in helping Brady become the superstar he’s been for the past two decades. In 10 years with the organization, Light started near every game at right tackle, helping bring the team three Super Bowls in the 2000s.

Anything could be true, but players and executives have been speculating perhaps New England is tanking after all the opt-outs and injuries this season. When a player who’s been by Belichick’s side for a decade believes he’s throwing this season in the trash, maybe it’s true.

If New England loses to the winless Jets, call it a season at Gillette Stadium. Only then will fans know if Belichick has thrown in the towel.
