Sports Pulse: Top athletes speak to the importance of voting USA TODAY

LeBron James tweeted his approval of Joe Biden's election victory with a simple meme that took a direct shot – or block – at sitting President Donald Trump. The four-time NBA champion also said he'll accept the traditional White House invitation to celebrate the Los Angeles Lakers' title with Trump out of office.

James posted a photo from the 2016 NBA Finals of himself blocking Golden State Warriors forward Andre Iguodala – one of the signature plays of his career that led to an NBA championship over the heavily favored 73-9 Warriors.

Except in the photo Biden's head is superimposed on James' head and Trump is on Iguodala's head – as if to punctuate Biden blocking Trump's attempt at a second term as president.

After several days of waiting following Election Day, Biden won the election Saturday after his home state of Pennsylvania was called in his favor.

James continued to tweet in celebration of Biden's win Saturday. He thanked Philadelphia community for its part in making Biden's presidency happen and re-tweeted a video of CNN commentator Van Jones emotionally breaking down, writing: "CHARACTER MATTERS, BEING SIMPLY A GOOD PERSON MATTERS! Salute & Thank You @VanJones68!!!"

He also tweeted a photo of himself smoking a cigar while tagging the "More than a Vote" campaign. He also re-tweeted a meme of Trump saying "you're fired" on The Apprentice.

James has been one of Trump's most outspoken critics from the sports world. In 2017, James called Trump a "bum" when the president withdrew his White House visit invitation to the Warriors. Trump later questioned James' intelligence in a 2018 interview and was critical of the NBA's restart that saw players kneeling during the national anthem. James said he didn't care if Trump wasn't watching the NBA.

In response to Warriors forward Draymond Green telling James he could now go to the White House for a visit to celebrate the Lakers' championship, James wrote: "YO we back up in there my G!!! I’m taking my tequila and vino too!"
