Cars converged at the Tennessee Capitol in Nashville, along with some protesters, after Joe Biden was named President-elect on Saturday. Nashville Tennessean

A Middle Tennessee schools superintendent commented on social media Sunday, pairing a joke about voter fraud with a picture of President-elect Joe Biden visiting his son’s grave. The official has since deleted his Twitter account.

"President Elect Joe Biden is headed to church this morning," Twitter user and Lawrence County Commissioner Chris Jackson posted with a photo of Biden walking through a cemetery.

Biden, who in a historic victory last week defeated President Donald Trump in the 2020 American presidential election, visited his son Beau's grave on Sunday

"Looks like he's thanking his voters," Lincoln County Schools Director Bill Heath commented in a since deleted post on his personal Twitter account.

When reached by phone Monday morning, Heath apologized.

"I didn't know he was there visiting his son's grave," Heath said. "That was a poor response from me back to Mr. Jackson. I should have known as [superintendent] emotions were still high after the election."

Heath said he used to work with Jackson.

"The tweet I was responding to, I thought he was going to church," Heath said. "When I found out... you can't take that back.... If that picture is him truly visiting his son's grave, I would never have done that.... It would be cruel."

He said he deleted all his social media accounts because "emotions are too high right now."

Lincoln County Schools board members could not immediately be reached for comment.

Lincoln County is in south central Tennessee. Its largest city is Fayetteville, about 90 miles south of Nashville.

According to his online profile, Heath became the director of Lincoln County Schools on Jan. 1, 2016.

"Raised in Lincoln County, Dr. Heath is pleased to have the opportunity to return to his hometown and give back to the community where he was afforded a wealth of opportunity as a child and young adult growing up," his profile reads.

Shortly after the Associated Press and others projected that Biden, a Democrat, had won, Trump insisted over the weekend the election was "far from over" and his attorney, Rudy Giuliani, said the president would not concede the race, claiming without evidence that hundreds of thousands of ballots are in question.

Trump and his attorneys have already demanded a recount in Wisconsin and are likely to request them elsewhere. They have also filed litigation in several states, though legal experts so far have said they do not see a legal path to reelection for Trump.

Neither Giuliani nor Trump have offered evidence to substantiate their claims of fraud.
