Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse in December is already a joke. Who wants to come here?
But coming to Syracuse, in December, in a pandemic after flying around for a million years? No wonder that meteor blew up.
When Syracuse.com reporter Glenn Coin detailed the travels of the meteor that exploded over Syracuse Wednesday with the force of 66 tons of dynamite, Twitter took delight in the new material. Writers with hundreds of thousands of followers shared the story and their punchlines.
It is the perfect distraction now: No politics. No death. The marvel of science. A giant explosion, joining together thousands who are, more than ever, alone, and in need of a joke.
Many were retweeting Bloomberg’s White House reporter Jennifer Jacobs, who worked for Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard more than a decade ago.
