Cyrus shared how she deals with struggles with Stern and how she hopes her next relationship will mirror that ideology, "I need someone that really can laugh because talking about some of this anxiety and fear, I tend to be one of the people that try to laugh through it."
"If you don't laugh you'll cry," the Plastic Hearts artist continued, "It can kind of take over so I need someone that keeps life funny for me and has a really interesting perspective."
Stern then asked if she needs someone not involved in the music industry or celebrity circles whatsoever, considering her amount of success. Cyrus replied, "I did this." The host bluntly followed up by asking if Liam Hemsworth's equal status of fame, and complications that accompany that dynamic, lead to the downfall of their marriage.
Aftermath Of The Malibu Fires
"No, what did in the marriage is we were together since I was sixteen, our house burned down," she explained, "I don't know if we ever really thought we were actually going to get married."
The singer brought up that after the Malibu fires that destroyed her home, the extent of the trauma she endured even changed the sound of her voice.
The fire took away a crushing amount of physical memories, moments of her entire life that she can never get back, "I had so much and it was all gone. Every song I had ever written was in that house. Every photograph of me that my parents had given to me, all my scripts, I lost everything."
"In trying to put that back together instead of going," she detailed the late arrival of her self reflection following the nightmare, "'Nature kind of did something I couldn't do for myself it forced me to let go,' I ran towards the fire. Me being an intense person and not wanting to sit with it...I clung to what I had left of that house."
