Seemingly out of nowhere, Disney+ dropped a Star Wars Holiday Special. No, not the hilariously awful one from the 1970s that even George Lucas despises. This is actually a brand new LEGO Holiday Special that is set after the events of The Rise Of Skywalker.
Much like The LEGO Batman Movie, the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special tributes all that fans love while parodying it at the same time. It's well-animated, it's cute, it's a perfect holiday special, and it features brilliant comedy for the whole family. Plenty of hilarious moments stand out in just a forty-five-minute runtime.
10 Put On A Shirt, Kylo!
Kylo Ren's shirtless scene from The Last Jedi was endlessly mocked across the internet. So it's no shocker that the LEGO special makes fun of it. Seeing General Hux stumble over his words, trying not to get distracted by the Supreme Leader's body is funny enough.
Then Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine come along through time travel hijinks. Kylo goes to tell them about the events that occurred in the thirty years gap but Palpatine practically begs him to put on a shirt. Even Adam Driver's pecs were too much for Palpatine.
9 Poorly Assembled Death Star
Of course, there are several LEGO-themed jokes across the special. The funniest being a running gag for whenever the movie returns to Death Star II. In an establishing shot, a piece of the Death Star II always falls off. It's a subtle joke to all the times the space station gets destroyed but it does funnier every time it returns.
8 Oh, That's Original
By the end of the sequel trilogy, fans had grown to understand the reasoning for why Kylo Ren was so similar to Vader - especially with the mask and distorted voice. However, when Kylo Ren was first shown off, many were quick to mock and call him unoriginal.
So it's a nice reference to how the fans reacted when Palpatine fixes Kylo Ren's helmet. Upon putting it on, Darth Vader comments, "Oh, that's original," in the most non-subtly sarcastic way possible.
7 Traffic Duty
As Rey and Darth Vader battle throughout different points in time, they come across two Clone Troopers. They are on speeder bikes bored and waiting for any action. Dee Bradley Baker returns once more to play the Clones and nails the comedic timing.
The troopers comment that it feels like they're the same person. This is followed by them saying something in unison just to say, "Jinx!" Of course, this is in unison too so this follows, "Oh, double jinx!"
6 The Phantom Boredom
It's kind of unanimous that George Lucas had a neat idea of showing the political side of things that led to the Republic's fall. Unfortunately, the idea was not executed in the best way. Many felt that the politics and trade federation plots were boring parts of the prequels.
So that makes it so hilarious when Rey arrives at the beginning of The Phantom Menace. There, she sees a young Obi-Wan childishly bashing his head on the table repeating that he's bored. "Who cares about a trade dispute?!?" James Arnold Taylor is just too funny.
5 We're In The Endgame Now?
Halfway through the special, it suddenly becomes the ultimate crossover of all eras. With Heroes and villains from the Age Of Republic, Age Of Rebellion, and the Age Of Resistance, all of them converged on Tattooine beneath the binary suns.
This results in a fight that seems uncannily similar to the portals scene from Avengers: Endgame. As awesome as it is, there's also plenty of jokes thrown in. The sight of Darth Maul hopping around on just his torso, both Han Solos shooting first at the same time, the three Obi-Wans saying hello in unison etc.
4 Darth Vader VS...Darth Vader?
Rey and Vader's fight takes them to Echo Base during the events of The Empire Strikes Back. This leads to the Vader of the future meeting the Vader who storms Echo Base. The two childish and derping Vaders have their own fight that is already hilarious.
The funniest line comes from a Snowtrooper who asks, "Does anybody know what the protocol is here?" The future Vader and Rey end up going through the time gateway again. The past Vader ends things perfectly by shrugging the scene away with, "That was weird."
3 Cooing Over Grogu
Already after two seasons of The Mandalorian, Grogu (Baby Yoda) has become an icon. Why? Because he is the best marketing ploy. Create a character so cute that he will be engraved in every fan's brain. It also helps that the show about the character is well-written and made.
So, of course, through the giant fight through time and space: Rey and Vader end up during the events of The Mandalorian. Everyone stops instantly just to coo over Grogu before going through time again.
2 Finn's Training Error
In the beginning, Rey is trying to teach Finn the ways of the Jedi: it does not go smoothly. Rey puts the same blinding training helmet on Finn that Luke used. Rey tells him to let go and let the Force flow through him.
Finn instead just goes berserk and has a hilarious fight with the training remote. It happens so quickly and out of nowhere that it catches the viewer so off guard. The well-timed slapstick is just icing on the cake.
1 Childish Sith Lords
This is cheating slightly but any scene featuring the Sith Lords will make anyone's sides hurt. Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, and Kylo Ren are all big man-children. Kylo Ren is just a dork fanboy of his grandfather, Vader is a total fool, and Palpatine comes off as if Mark Hamill's Joker entered Star Wars.
All three have the best lines across the whole special. From Vader giving Palpatine a Life Day gift to Kylo Ren breaking the fourth wall about The Rise Of Skywalker. It's all hilarious and makes the villains a delight to watch.
