Two of the crowning jewels in the already impressive Pixar vault, The Incredibles franchise has given audiences lots of unforgettable moments. Infinitely quotable and hilariously entertaining, both movies have their own distinctive brand of humor, which spreads among its charming and perfectly voiced cast of characters.
Among its collection of funny quotes, perhaps none is more popular than "Where is my super suit?" First uttered by the character of Frozone, voiced by the one and only Samuel L. Jackson, it perfectly captures the franchise's unique mix of extraordinary circumstances and everyday business. And in the two movies, there are tons of other examples that, like this, are as comical as they are timeless.
10 Where Is My Super Suit?
Near the end of the first movie, when Metroville is being attacked by the Omnidroid, Lucius logically wants to go out and help. Unable to find his super suit, he begins an argument with his wife, who's less than ecstatic about the idea of him leaving.
The whole interaction is one of the high points of the movie. Hilarious, relatable, and performed with just the right amount of neurosis by Jackson and Kimberly Adair Clark, the scene is humor done right. It doesn't distract from the attack in the city and actually raises the stakes, providing the perfect mix of tension and comedy.
9 Edna Mode... And Guest
One of the most iconic characters of the franchise is Edna Mode, the short and fast-walking designer of the team's super suits. Highly skilled and eccentric, Edna provides some of the most memorable moments in the movies. In the first Incredibles, when Helen Parr comes to visit asking about her husband's activities, Edna thinks she's there looking for super suits for the rest of the family. Taking Helen to her studio, Edna deactivates her security system by saying her name out loud, followed by the clarification that she's not alone.
It's a short but priceless moment that highlights Edna's comedic style. A fun fact, Edna is actually voiced by the film's director, Brad Bird.
8 Why Would They Change Math? Math Is Math!
During the second movie, Elastigirl is offered the chance to help rehabilitate the image of superheroes, leaving Bob in charge of the kids. He struggles to keep up with his children's antics but tries his very best. While helping Dash with his math homework, he finds it harder than expected, realizing that the method he's using is different from the one in Dash's book.
The moment is sweet, funny, and highly relatable to any parent who's ever helped with their child's homework. The generational clash provides a lot of comedy, while also reinforcing the film's family themes.
7 The Only Normal One Is Jack-Jack, And He's Not Even Toilet Trained!
Violet is the eldest of the Parr children. A teenager in both movies, she's the one most reluctant to adopt the superhero lifestyle, wanting normalcy more than anything else. During an argument in the first movie, she complains about how the only one with no powers is the baby (his vast abilities are still unknown to the rest of the family).
The scene recalls any number of discussions families have while at the dinner table. It's chaotically entertaining, and Jack-Jack's reaction at Violet's quip only makes the whole thing even more humorous.
6 We're Dead! We're Dead! We Survived, But We're Dead!
In the first film, Elastigirl decides to follow the tracker in Bob's suit, borrowing a private plane to do it. However, she doesn't realize that both her children have stowed away, leaving the baby home with the sitter. When her radio transmissions are picked up by Syndrome, he sends missiles to destroy the plane. Helen quickly grabs her children and jumps before impact, landing in the middle of the ocean.
Dash then breaks down and has a panic attack, lamenting how they're dead despite the fact they've just survived the attack. His tantrum feels very real considering the circumstances, but Spencer Fox's childish delivery makes the lines painfully hilarious.
5 And Machine Washable, Darling, That's A New Feature
Edna Mode is back, with another one of her unforgettable quotes. While displaying her designs for the Parr children costumes, she points out how on top of being fire-resistant and bullet-proof, they're also machine washable.
What makes this quote so comical is the reactions of both Edna and Helen after it's said. The former looks extremely proud as if the fact that they're machine washable was somehow more impressive than all the other amazing things the suits do. For her part, the latter is completely shocked, mouth agape and eyes wide, trying to understand what's happening.
4 Did You Wash Your Hands? With Soap?
In the second film, while at the dinner table, Dash speeds along, ready to dig in. Violet, however, asks him if he washed his hands. He runs to the bathroom and returns, only for her to ask if he used soap. He once again runs and returns, and this time Violet asks him if he dried them. Annoyed, he shakes them and quickly grabs a spring roll, before complaining the dinner is all vegetables.
Now, the scene feels oddly relevant, considering the world is in the middle of an ongoing pandemic. At the moment, though, it was simply the perfect example of the usual banter that goes on between a pair of siblings.
3 You Sly Dog! You Had Me Monologuing!
Syndrome, the Machiavellian villain of the first Incredibles, has a wide collection of funny quips. Perfectly voiced by Jason Lee, Syndrome has a sarcastic and macabre sense of humor that fits the actor's voice like a glove.
When he first appears before Mr. Incredible, he explains both his reasons for turning evil and his future intentions, before realizing the superhero was just trying to distract him. The quote is filled with all the sass and panache that made the character so effective and indelible. It's no wonder it has become such a popular meme.
2 Where Are You Going ASAP? You Better Be Back ASAP!
Honey Best, Lucius's wife, returns in Incredibles 2 for another uproarious exchange. When Mr. Incredible calls Lucius asking him to watch the kids, the latter, always ready for a good fight, immediately agrees, telling his friend he'll be there ASAP. Overhearing him, Honey reprimands him and another argument ensues, albeit shorter this time.
It's a similar scene to that of the first movie, but it's still as hilarious as it was the first time. Jackson and Adair Clark's voice acting once again fills the dialogue with just enough exasperation to sell it, without making it too over-the-top.
1 Is She Having Adolescence?
In Incredibles 2, after Violet finds out that one of their parents' allies erased the memory of her high school crush after he saw her in costume without her mask, she goes into a tirade. Renouncing her superhero identity, she tries to put her costume through the garbage disposal. But the suit, built by Edna, is indestructible, causing her to grunt in rage and Dash to question her actions.
It's a very funny quote, filled with Dash's trademark confusion at his sister's antics, and another reason why this franchise's humor is so effective, without distracting from the story.
