Iowa and Wisconsin aren’t big fans of one another. Players like Hawkeyes guard Jordan Bohannon can hardly even imagine what it would’ve taken to get them to become Badgers.
During his media availability prior to Iowa’s clash with Wisconsin on Thursday night, Bohannon was asked about his feelings toward the Badgers. The native Iowan said that it would’ve taken a lot of money in a certain fast food bag for him to even consider heading up to Madison for college.
"It would have taken about 20,000 dollars in a McDonalds bag to go to Wisconsin,” Bohannon said, via David Eickholt of Hawkeye Insider.
Of course, Bohannon’s comment is also alluding to a report from NBC Sports’ Dan Patrick that Tennessee coaches under Jeremy Pruitt were giving recruits cash in McDonald’s bags.
“I was told that there are a few things that are going on here, and I asked my source, ‘How did they get these assistant head coaches on recruiting violations?’ And he said ‘Well, they put money into McDonald's bags and gave them to the recruits when they came on campus. Some of the campus visits were not organized or they were not above board, but they were handing out cash...So you literally had bag men and they put the cash in McDonald's bags and handed it to the recruits,’ Patrick said.
“My source said they were so in-your-face with it -- they weren’t even trying to hide it. And that’s where my source said ‘Tennessee got sloppy, Georgia got sloppy, but there’s been no word on the NCAA looking at Georgia. But Tennessee, they got sloppy and they were handing out cash in McDonalds bags.’”
Following Patrick's report, Wes Rucker of GoVols247 did follow up with a report of his own that people at Tennessee were "angrily" denying the stories about McDonald's bags.
With that kind of animosity within the rivalry, Iowa vs. Wisconsin will be appointment television for that reason alone. On top of that, it’s a top 25 matchup with the Hawkeyes ranked No. 11 and the Badgers ranked No. 21.
Iowa and Wisconsin tip off from Madison at 6:00 p.m. CT on Thursday night.
