Ex-Warriors GM gives funny answer regarding James Wiseman's punishment - Yahoo Sports

Ex-Dubs GM gives funny answer regarding Wiseman's punishment originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

In the Warriors' blowout loss to the LA Clippers on Thursday night, James Wiseman did not play until the fourth quarter.

Steve Kerr chose to bench the rookie for missing a COVID-19 test over the NBA All-Star break.

Golden State trailed 104-68 at the end of the third quarter, so why even put Wiseman into the game for the final frame? What is that really teaching him?

"Now this is a little bit of a joke, OK (laughter) -- it's almost punishment to have to go into a game when you're down like that (laughter)," former Warriors general manager Larry Riley said Friday on 95.7 The Game's "The Morning Roast" show.

Well played, Mr. Riley.

"I can't get into anybody else's mind," he added. "I shouldn't get into the Golden State Warriors business. It's up to them. But it would appear from the outside that Steve Kerr sent a message that he was satisfied with.

"And that's all that's important."

True.

Now hopefully this story completely goes away, Wiseman shows growth in the areas he needs improvement and the Warriors start racking up some wins.

Oh, and don't be surprised if the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 draft starts at center against Rudy Gobert and the Utah Jazz on Sunday.
