NAPLES, Fla. – A Naples man was arrested Saturday after allegedly spitting on a doctor and saying “covid is a joke” when asked to take a COVID-19 test.
Anthony Hager, 24, is facing a felony charge of battery on a doctor after he was taken to the hospital by ambulance around 3:30 a.m. claiming his heart was racing and he had just changed medication, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Hager was not acting normal when EMS dropped him off at the hospital and security officers told them the man had spit on a doctor shortly after.
The emergency physician told Hager he would be giving him a COVID-19 test and performing blood work, according to the arrest report. That is when Hager, reportedly, said “covid is a joke,” brought up phlem in his throat and spit on the doctor.
The doctor said the phlem stuck on his left breast pocket.
Deputies handcuffed Hager to the hospital bed to complete treatment, according to CCSO.
The 24-year-old will then be taken to the Naples Jail Center, deputies said.
