We could all use a good laugh about now, and the San Jose Improv is ready to have audiences rolling in the aisles again.

After being forced to close its doors for 15 months because of the coronavirus pandemic, the downtown comedy club — housed at the historic Jose Theatre on South First street — will reopen June 24, with standup Sammy Obeid. D.L. Hughley — actor, author and onetime “Dancing With the Stars” contestant — will headline the grand opening weekend June 25-27.

San Jose native Anjelah Johnson — who has packed that house in previous appearances — will be back with six shows July 15-18. Other upcoming acts including Russell Peters (July 22-25), Tommy Davidson (Aug. 26-28) and Carlos Mencia (Sept. 3-5). And Paul Rodriguez — who was the San Jose Improv’s first headliner when it opened in 2002 — will perform Aug. 6-8.

“Having this level of comedic talent grace our stage is a thrill and the best way to welcome the people of San Jose to the Improv once again,” General Manager David Williams said.

Tickets go on sale June 14 at 10 a.m. at www.improv.com/sanjose.
