Warning: SPOILERS follow for WandaVision
WandaVision star, Paul Bettany, who played Vision in the limited Disney Plus series, says he's glad his secret cameo joke didn't backfire too much.
Obviously, that depends on who you ask but for the most part, Bettany made it out of that scenario unscathed (probably because people were too busy trying to figure out if a bug was Mephisto). During an interview with The Playlist, Bettany explained that he's glad everything blew over nicely.
"I've had all sorts of feeling about it," Bettany told The Playlist when asked if he regretted saying there was a big cameo in the show he was excited about. "Initially, it was a massive regret, which was poeple started going because I thought it was a really funny joke and was pleased with myself."
Bettany said when people started questioning if the cameo was someone like Patrick Stewart, he thought to himself, "Oh my god, people are going to be so disappointed when they realize it's f**king me again."
Bettany's joke about the secret cameo was him mentioning that there was a cameo coming in WandaVision that he was very excited about and that it gave him a chance to work with an actor he had never worked with. Fans began to scrub through Bettany's acting history to see what big actors he could have been hinting at.
We all learned later that this big "cameo" of someone Bettany had never acted alongside was...himself. More specifically, it was the scenes featuring White Vision, also played by Bettany, interacting with Bettany's Vision toward the end of the series.
"In the end, I spoke to Kevin Feige about it and he thought it was a really good joke, a really funny joke," Bettany said. "And it didn't backfire too much. For a second there, I was like, 'Oh no, what have I done?' But yeah...I had all sorts of feelings regarding that."
